Finding Great Jewelry

When I started thinking more seriously about heading into the professional realm, I realized that I needed to update my jewelry. I had been wearing fun costume jewelry for years, but it wasn't resonating with the people that I worked with or my clients. It was really frustrating, so I decided to head shopping to update my collection. It was amazing to see how big of a difference a nice new necklace and some conservative earrings made. This website is all about finding great jewelry that fits within your budget and your wardrobe. Check out this blog for more information.

What To Look For When Buying A Diamond Ring

Blog

Are you currently looking for a diamond ring for an upcoming engagement, but you've never shopped for a diamond ring before? If so, you're definitely going to want to know the four areas that are used to grade diamonds. Carat weight, clarity, cut, and color are the 4C's used as criteria to help you separate one diamond from another.

Carat Weight

The carat weight is what you probably think of the most when comparing diamonds. However, many people confuse the carat weight with the size of the diamond. These are two totally different things since two diamonds with the same carat weight can look completely different from each other in size due to how they are cut.

The reason that the cut matters is that you do not want part of the diamond's weight to be hidden underneath the diamond. A higher quality cut will result in more of the diamond being visible when placed in the ring, giving it a bigger appearance.

Cut

The cut of a diamond is rated one of five grades. Excellent is the highest grade that a diamond can get, and poor is the worst grade. The grade of a diamond's cut is measured by putting it in a machine that rotates the diamond 360 degrees and looks at over a dozen aspects that make up the diamond.

For example, the flat surface on top of a diamond is known as the table size. The length of the diamond from top to bottom is known as the total depth. There are desirable proportions of each measurement that help go towards the diamond's cut rating, all of which contribute to how the diamond sparkles under light.

Clarity

Clarity has multiple grades to determine how flawless a diamond is. The scale actually tops out at a flawless rating, with the one right below it being internally flawless. As a diamond decreases in clarity, its rating will drop to names such as very very slightly included, very slightly included, slightly included, and included. The latter is the worst clarity rating a diamond can get.

Color

Color is a scale that is easy to understand since the color is given a letter grade based on how colorless the diamond is. Keep in mind that the scale starts as high as D and can go as low as Z. A letter closer to the start of the alphabet will be considered colorless.
